Max Records Biography

Actor

Max Records became a movie star with his first role -- the lead in the Spike Jonze film version of Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are (2009). Records had almost no experience prior to the Jonze film, yet he beat out hundreds of aspiring young actors for the part. Jonze has since said the role went to Records because of his personality and ease in front of the camera (Records's father is a photographer). The filming for Where the Wild Things Are began when Records was nine years old, but he was twelve by the time the movie was released. In the meantime he appeared in a small role in The Brothers Bloom (as a young Mark Ruffalo); his second movie role, it became his big-screen debut when the film was released in 2008.

Extra credit: Records made an appearance in a music video ("Stable Song") for the band Death Cab for Cutie prior to acting in Where the Wild Things Are.
